Nationwide Protests: MTN Customers Furious Over SIM DeactivationDisgruntled MTN customers have swarmed the company’s offices nationwide, expressing frustration and disappointment over the recent deactivation of their phone numbers by the telecom giant.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Naija News reports that on Sunday, MTN blocked the mobile lines of numerous users due to their failure to link their National Identification Numbers (NIN) with their phone numbers. This move follows the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) directive to disconnect Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) numbers not linked to NINs, with enforcement beginning from July 31, 2024.

As of this report, MTN has not yet released an official statement addressing the situation, and the total number of affected mobile numbers remains unclear.

Many subscribers began gathering at MTN offices early Monday morning, July 29, 2024, forming long lines at the entry points.

This latest deadline was an extension from the previous date of April 15, 2024, to July 31. However, the situation has led to widespread anger, as many subscribers find their lines blocked despite having completed the required NIN linkage.

On February 29, the NCC warned that 45 million subscribers could face disconnection for not completing the linkage process

The women were reportedly travelling to Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo aboard an Akwa Ibom Transport Corporation bus to join Governor Umo Eno in welcoming the President when their vehicle collided with a security Hilux van along Oron Road.

The collision left both vehicles badly damaged, with several occupants requiring emergency medical attention.

A video of the accident scene shared online by Nsikakabasi Akpan showed bystanders and emergency responders working to rescue injured passengers trapped in the wreckage.

The former Minister of Aviation maintained that he neither authorised nor approved the acceptance of the designation.

In a statement issued on Friday through his Special Assistant on Media, Lizzy Okoji, Fani-Kayode explained that representatives from his office attended the society’s event following an invitation extended to him.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has blamed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his children’s decision to pursue their education outside Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Amaechi said the decision was influenced by the political crisis he encountered during Obasanjo’s administration.

The former Rivers State governor made the disclosure during an interview with News Central Television on Friday, November 6, 2026.

He recounted how Obasanjo allegedly worked against his ambition to become Rivers State governor in 2007, despite emerging victorious in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in 2006.

According to Amaechi, the disagreement escalated to the point where the former president allegedly threatened to have him arrested, forcing him to leave the country.

He disclosed that he spent about 10 months outside Nigeria while pursuing legal action over the political situation.

Amaechi added that the crisis also affected his wife and children, who were reportedly forced to move from one residence to another to avoid possible trouble.

He explained that the unstable situation made it difficult for his children to continue their education in Nigeria, prompting the family to send them abroad to ensure their safety and uninterrupted schooling.

Speaking during the interview, Amaechi said:

“President Obasanjo tried to stop me from being a governor but you will see that I did not go to sleep, I went to court and when he threatened arrest, I left the country.

“My children did not go to Nigerian school because Obasanjo chased us out of Nigeria. My wife and children were running from one house to another. They had to go to school outside the country to stay alive and to keep learning.”
