Operation Thunder: Amotekun Stops Five Deadly Kidnap Gangs Before They Strike
The Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has successfully foiled five separate kidnap attempts within just two weeks in Ondo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The State Commander of the Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, revealed this on Wednesday in Akure while briefing journalists.
According to him, none of the incidents involved the payment of ransom. The most recent case occurred on Monday when a community chief near Akure was abducted.
Adeleye explained that the distress call from the area prompted swift action:
“Through the combined efforts of our operatives and local hunters, we pursued the kidnappers overnight. We rescued both the chief and the commercial motorcyclist taken alongside him without paying any ransom,” he said.
He further disclosed that in the Akoko axis, kidnappers had attacked farms, assaulted women, and seized some victims between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. along Ajegunle Road.
“Within 48 hours, we secured their release and arrested three members of the gang. Both the suspects and victims are here with us,” Adeleye stated.
Similar successes were recorded in the Central Senatorial District, where Amotekun operatives again apprehended suspected kidnappers, who were later identified by their victims.
“Today, we have a total of 17 suspects in custody: eight for breach of public order, three for kidnapping, and six for robbery and rape,” the commander added.
Adeleye assured that Amotekun remains ready to work closely with other security agencies to maintain the peace currently enjoyed in Ondo State.
He also noted that clashes between farmers and herders in the state have reduced significantly and urged residents to support the Corps with timely and accurate information.
