Operation Thunder: Amotekun Stops Five Deadly Kidnap Gangs Before They Strike

The Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has successfully foiled five separate kidnap attempts within just two weeks in Ondo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The State Commander of the Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, revealed this on Wednesday in Akure while briefing journalists.

According to him, none of the incidents involved the payment of ransom. The most recent case occurred on Monday when a community chief near Akure was abducted.

Adeleye explained that the distress call from the area prompted swift action:
“Through the combined efforts of our operatives and local hunters, we pursued the kidnappers overnight. We rescued both the chief and the commercial motorcyclist taken alongside him without paying any ransom,” he said.

He further disclosed that in the Akoko axis, kidnappers had attacked farms, assaulted women, and seized some victims between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. along Ajegunle Road.
“Within 48 hours, we secured their release and arrested three members of the gang. Both the suspects and victims are here with us,” Adeleye stated.

Similar successes were recorded in the Central Senatorial District, where Amotekun operatives again apprehended suspected kidnappers, who were later identified by their victims.

“Today, we have a total of 17 suspects in custody: eight for breach of public order, three for kidnapping, and six for robbery and rape,” the commander added.

Adeleye assured that Amotekun remains ready to work closely with other security agencies to maintain the peace currently enjoyed in Ondo State.

He also noted that clashes between farmers and herders in the state have reduced significantly and urged residents to support the Corps with timely and accurate information.

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
