Former Lagos Deputy Gov Slams Tinubu: Focus on Nation’s Woes, Not Re-election
Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kofoworola Bucknor‑Akerele, has voiced strong displeasure over President Bola Tinubu’s reported focus on seeking a second term instead of tackling Nigeria’s mounting challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Thursday during an interview with Channels Television, Bucknor‑Akerele—who once served as Tinubu’s deputy in Lagos—described the President’s 2027 ambition as a misplaced priority.
“Unfortunately, what I see right now is that the President is looking toward a second term, and that seems to be his main focus,” she said. “But I believe he should be paying attention to the kind of far‑reaching reforms people like Emeka Anyaoku and others are proposing—plans that can truly reshape Nigeria for future generations.”
She urged Tinubu’s advisers to steer him away from politicking and toward concrete reforms.
“2027 is not our priority,” she stressed. “Our priority is building a Nigeria that works again.”
‘They May Not Get Power’
Bucknor‑Akerele warned politicians to stop prioritizing selfish ambitions while millions of young Nigerians remain unemployed and disillusioned.
“We need full employment for our youths. Many roam the streets—some graduates are reduced to working as security guards. Is that what we want for Nigeria? I don’t think so,” she said.
She cautioned that ignoring these realities could spark unrest:
“The power they are scheming for, they may not get it, because the youths are now restive. Let us pray this does not end in a revolution.”
The Patriots’ Demand
As a member of The Patriots group led by former Commonwealth Secretary‑General Emeka Anyaoku, Bucknor‑Akerele reiterated their call for a new constitution and urgent reforms in security, economy, education, and healthcare.
“We are in dire straits in Nigeria. Look at our security, our economy, our education, our health system—they are all in flux,” she lamented.
“We need state police, we need to cut recurrent expenditure, and we need a system that works—one that allows free education and improved social services.”‘Nigerians Are Fed Up’
Bucknor‑Akerele concluded with a blunt warning to the government:
“If there is enough pressure on this government, they will have no choice but to act, because everywhere in Nigeria, people are fed up.
If this government thinks it can continue as it is, then I am sorry—this country is headed for disaster.”
