Crisis Rocks Delta APC: Chieftain Pleads With Nwoko, Nwaoboshi to End Cold War”

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Prof. Leroy Edozien, has appealed to Senator Ned Nwoko and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi to bury their differences and work together in the interest of the Anioma people.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The two political heavyweights have remained at odds since the build‑up to the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on Monday while receiving a delegation from the Ugo‑Anioma Movement, led by Victor Sorokwu, on an advocacy visit, Prof. Edozien said he had made several attempts to reconcile the senators and urged them to put aside personal grievances for the collective good of Anioma.

“When I got the message that you were paying me an advocacy visit, I thought to myself, I’m not a senator, commissioner, or former this or that; I’m simply a retired doctor and academic. But I appreciate your visit—even if it’s just to greet me, I’m grateful,” he said.

Prof. Edozien stressed that his passion for the Anioma agenda predates party affiliations.

“The Anioma issue is very dear to me. I began supporting the bill for the creation of Anioma State when Senator Ned Nwoko was still in the PDP. For me, it is not about politics or party—it is about what benefits our people. That should be our primary focus.”

He recalled his own political journey:

“When I aspired to be governor between 2017 and 2018, it was because of the Anioma agenda. We were advocating that the APC should zone the governorship ticket to Delta North because the zone had not completed its eight‑year tenure.”

Addressing opposition to the creation of Anioma State, he noted that some objections are rooted in personal politics or misconceptions about the region’s alignment with the South‑East.

“Many people don’t know the genesis of the Anioma struggle. The President had demanded the creation of one additional state to ensure equity in the South‑East. If that state is to be created, let it be Anioma. If Anioma people can produce a president and be accepted by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, why shouldn’t we be part of the South‑East? It’s a political matter, and we must not give up the fight for Anioma State.”

On the rift between Nwoko and Nwaoboshi, he said:

“I have been trying to reconcile them. In fact, there are more than just these two leaders; others are also involved. This is why we birthed the Delta North Progressives—to seek new ways to unite our leaders. I even offered to travel to Abuja to arrange a private meeting between them.

“But really, Senators Nwoko and Nwaoboshi don’t need anyone to mediate. They both know their grievances, but when it comes to Anioma, they should work together.”

Earlier, Victor Sorokwu, Convener of the Ugo‑Anioma Movement, appealed to Prof. Edozien to step in and help reconcile the two senators.

“Following the Senate Zonal Public Hearing in Ikot‑Ekpene and Enugu on the creation of Anioma State, we decided to visit you to seek your intervention in the Nwoko–Nwaoboshi matter,” he said.

Sorokwu explained that the visit aimed to rally Anioma leaders and icons behind the renewed quest for Anioma State.

The visit concluded with the formal conferment of the title “Patron of Ugo‑Anioma” on Prof. Edozien in recognition of his unwavering commitment to the Anioma cause.

“South Has Had More Time In Power” — Atiku Speaks On Zoning Debate

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has argued that the North is not disadvantaged in Nigeria’s power-sharing arrangement under democratic rule.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Atiku made the statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke on zoning, fairness, and political balance in the country.

He noted that since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999, the South has held the presidency for about 18 years, while the North has governed for roughly 10 years.

According to him, this should be taken into account when discussing which region has benefited more from the country’s power rotation system. He also maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the only major political party with zoning clearly embedded in its constitution.

“The South has governed for 18 years and the North for 10. So who is really in deficit if we are being fair? Even more broadly, the only party with zoning formally entrenched is the PDP,” he said.

Atiku also recalled the constitutional conference held during the military era under General Sani Abacha, where he led a group that opposed the inclusion of rotational presidency in the constitution.

He said the proposal, championed by the late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, was rejected at the time because his group had majority support among delegates.

According to him, Ekwueme later acknowledged that the decision may not have been ideal during his funeral years later. Atiku added that he now believes a rotational system, if adopted earlier, could have ensured a more balanced distribution of power across Nigeria’s regions.
