Peter Obi, Alex Otti Walk Tightrope As Labour Party Plots Showdown At NEC
The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Ayo Olorunfemi, has confirmed that critical decisions—including the possible expulsion of party leaders such as the 2023 presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti—will be addressed at the party’s next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to NIVONEWS, this development follows a recent declaration by factional National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, who stated that Peter Obi would soon face expulsion for allegedly aligning with the opposition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC). Arabambi, in a Channels Television interview on July 8, insisted that Obi’s support for the ADC violated the constitution of the Labour Party, which prohibits dual party membership.
Despite participating in the ADC coalition launch, Peter Obi has maintained that he remains a committed member of the Labour Party. However, according to NIVONEWS, the party’s leadership appears poised to reassess his standing and that of Governor Otti in light of their perceived anti-party activities.
Speaking to The Punch, Olorunfemi revealed that while no date has been fixed, preparations are underway to convene the NEC for this purpose. “I believe we are due for another National Executive Council meeting, especially considering recent developments. We need to get direction from the NEC, which is the second-highest decision-making body in our party,” he said.
According to NIVONEWS, Olorunfemi emphasized that consultations are ongoing and that the NEC will ultimately determine the appropriate disciplinary measures for any members found to have contravened the party’s principles.
