According to NIVONEWS, the security operation, which lasted several hours, was executed at Number One Nekede Old Road in Owerri West Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of several suspected criminals believed to be part of a larger syndicate terrorizing communities across the state.
A senior government official, who requested anonymity, revealed that the crackdown was part of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s comprehensive security agenda aimed at restoring law and order. “This development sends a strong message to all criminal elements that Imo State is no longer a safe haven,” he said.
According to NIVONEWS, various dangerous items were recovered at the hideout, including assorted firearms, cartridges, illicit drugs, and vandalized public infrastructure such as solar-powered streetlights—believed to have been stolen from state installations by the criminal gang.
The official added, “The recovery of these incriminating materials is proof of the government’s resolve to sanitize the state and dismantle all networks of crime. We are determined to reclaim every inch of Imo territory from the grip of criminals.”
He urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies, noting that more raids and intelligence-driven operations would follow. “We count on the support of the good people of Imo State as we work to build a safer environment for all.”
According to NIVONEWS, the police spokesperson in the state, Henry Okoye, confirmed the deployment of security operatives for the mission, though he deferred to the government for details on the operation’s broader objective. “We provided the needed security backup,” he said, “but the rationale and planning of the operation were under the purview of the government.”
