In the earlier attack, Dr. Eni Uduma Chima — a former local government chairman and House of Assembly member — narrowly escaped death along with his younger brother, Chima Uduma Chima. Their vehicle, an SUV, was riddled with bullets. According to NIVONEWS, both men were subsequently banished from the community for seven years by some residents, who accused them of fueling communal unrest.

The situation deteriorated further on Wednesday with the killing of another resident, Udu Nnachi Uzor. Eyewitnesses claimed that a local vigilante group known as the Catcham Boys stormed Uzor’s residence in Ndenworo village around midday. His wife, Onyinye, recounted in a phone interview that the attackers, numbering about 20, asked for her husband and, upon identifying him, shot him at close range. “He was shot by one of the Catcham members known as ‘Deri’,” she said, adding that his body has since been deposited in the morgue.

A community leader, Chief Etta Egor, condemned the persistent violence, alleging that the Catcham Boys had long been a source of terror in Ekoli-Edda. “We saw them entering villages with pump-action rifles, accompanied by police and soldiers. Moments later, gunshots rang out and Udu was dead,” he narrated.

According to NIVONEWS, tensions have been further exacerbated by the alleged hijacking of a MAC Truck belonging to the former council chairman, which remains missing.

When contacted, Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, said the command is yet to receive a full briefing on the incident from the Edda Divisional Police Headquarters.
