Delta Gov Oborevwori Fires Back at Critics, Says Mega Flyovers Are ‘Legacy Investments’

Delta Governor Oborevwori Defends Flyover Projects, Dismisses Criticism as Sectional and Misguided....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has defended his administration’s multibillion-naira flyover projects in Warri and Effurun, describing them as strategic investments aimed at improving urban mobility and boosting economic activity.

The governor’s response came through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in reaction to criticisms made by former Ethiope West Local Government Chairman and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Wilson Omene. Omene had dismissed the ongoing projects as “ill-informed and misleading” in a recent interview.

Addressing the remarks, Oborevwori maintained that the flyovers, road expansions, and sleepway interchanges were not superficial initiatives but long-term infrastructure designed to ease traffic congestion and enhance the ease of doing business.

“These are not cosmetic projects. They are transformative infrastructure designed to unlock commercial potential, improve urban mobility, and create an enabling environment for private sector investment,” the statement read. “Warri and Effurun are gateway cities—linking ports, industries, and the hinterland. Perhaps Chief Omene should revisit what it truly means to build an enabling business environment.”

The governor emphasised that the Warri-Effurun corridor serves a rapidly expanding population and remains critical to the state’s economic activities. He added that only those disconnected from contemporary urban planning would fail to appreciate the strategic value of the projects.

Responding to Omene’s suggestion that funds should have been used to build industries in Delta Central, Oborevwori described the viewpoint as myopic and sectional.

“Delta State is not about one senatorial district. Our M.O.R.E Agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—is being implemented equitably across Delta North, Delta Central, and Delta South. No region is being left out,” the governor asserted.

On the governor’s recent move to align with the APC, Ahon clarified that the decision came after extensive consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across the state and was aimed at fostering synergy with the Federal Government for greater development outcomes.

“Governor Oborevwori’s alignment with the APC is not for personal gain but to enhance collaboration with the centre and bring more dividends of democracy to Deltans,” the statement continued. “Chief Wilson Omene is merely playing out a script crafted by those threatened by the governor’s rising political influence.”

Ahon urged Omene and other critics to focus on constructive engagement grounded in facts rather than divisive rhetoric. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and sustainable infrastructure delivery across the state.

“Constructive criticism is welcome, but it must be rooted in facts and a genuine desire to move Delta State forward,” the statement concluded.
