At a brief handover ceremony held Monday at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mr. Bashir Ojulari, reaffirmed the company’s strong commitment to advancing the Federal Government’s gas utilisation agenda.
Ojulari noted that the donation aligns with NNPC Ltd’s broader strategy to promote CNG as an affordable, cleaner, and sustainable alternative fuel. He also highlighted the company’s achievements in enhancing gas supply infrastructure, distribution networks, and retail channels across the country.
“I am proud that NNPC Ltd is at the forefront of implementing the Federal Government’s gas agenda in line with Nigeria’s energy transition goals,” Ojulari stated in a release issued by the company.
Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the CNG-powered buses as more than just vehicles—they are symbols of economic relief, social equity, and environmental responsibility.
“These buses represent a vision where the average Nigerian can commute in safety, affordability, and efficiency,” Ekpo remarked, adding that the initiative embodies the core objectives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda—cutting transport costs, reducing dependence on petrol, and harnessing the country’s vast natural gas reserves for public benefit.
In his remarks, NNPC Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mr. Mumuni Dagazau, emphasised that adopting CNG offers significant economic advantages, including reduced reliance on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), lower transportation costs, and the stimulation of local gas sector growth.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, noted that the initiative reflects NNPC Ltd’s vision for a more sustainable energy future that prioritises people, communities, and environmental well-being.
Programme Coordinator and CEO of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Michael Oluwagbemi, praised NNPC Ltd for its unwavering support, describing the company as a dependable partner in the drive to promote cleaner, gas-powered transportation solutions in Nigeria.
