Homeowners, builders, and tenants across Nigeria are raising the alarm over the continued spike in cement prices—now ranging between ₦9,500 and ₦12,000 per 50kg bag—despite earlier assurances from major manufacturers such as Dangote and BUA to bring down costs in line with President Bola Tinubu’s housing agenda.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ewhrudjakpo made this appeal while receiving the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, on a courtesy visit to his office in Yenagoa. According to a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Doubara Atasi, the deputy governor cautioned against the complacency of the political class and warned them not to mistake the endurance of Nigerians for weakness.

He expressed serious concern over the prevailing disregard for legal norms in the country, stressing that widespread lawlessness could plunge Nigeria into civil unrest if not urgently addressed.

“The NBA has both the mandate and capacity to defend constitutionalism and uphold the rule of law,” he said. “We are witnessing an increasing level of impunity. If nothing is done, the situation may spiral into anarchy and complete collapse of law and order.”

While congratulating Osigwe and the chairmen of the Yenagoa and Sagbama branches of the NBA on their recent elections, Ewhrudjakpo encouraged the association to raise its level of advocacy and intervention.

“The NBA needs to go beyond commendable efforts and take more decisive action,” he said. “We live in a society where the rule of law is being trampled on almost daily. The disregard for legal principles is reaching alarming levels. If this continues unchecked, civil unrest may become inevitable. It is my sincere hope that we retrace our steps for the sake of national stability.”

In response, NBA President Afam Osigwe, SAN, said his visit was one of solidarity with the Bayelsa legal community, the judiciary, and the state government—particularly over efforts to secure the release of kidnapped Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro.

He commended the state government, the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, the Police Commissioner, and other relevant stakeholders for their swift and coordinated actions towards the judge’s release.

Osigwe was accompanied by Clement Kekemeke, Chairman of the NBA’s Yenagoa branch, and Ogheneohuko Sampson, Chairman of the Sagbama branch.
