Wike Ignored Church Warning, Pushed Ahead with Testimony – Explosive Revelation by IPOB Counsel
Human rights lawyer and counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has condemned the recent remarks made by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during a church service at St. James’s Anglican Church in Asokoro, describing it as a national disgrace within a place of worship.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
During his address at the church, Wike took a swipe at the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming the nation’s economy was already in disarray before Tinubu assumed office.
In a statement on Monday titled “Nyesom Wike’s Unholy Outburst and the Profanation of God’s Altar: A National Embarrassment in the House of Worship,” Ejiofor expressed deep dismay over the minister’s conduct.
He labelled Wike’s comments as “political posturing, reckless ranting, and a desecration of the sacred sanctuary.”
Ejiofor further revealed that he had been informed by reliable sources that church officials discreetly signaled Wike to either redirect or conclude his speech—but the minister ignored the warnings and continued unabated.
“Tragically, this latest descent into shame didn’t happen in the typical chaos of campaign grounds or political rallies. It took place within the sanctified walls of St. James Anglican Church, a place set aside for reverence, worship, and divine reflection,” Ejiofor noted.
He condemned Wike’s use of the testimony segment of the service as a platform for political grandstanding, stressing that it was a gross abuse of a space meant for spiritual edification.
“As a Knight of St. Christopher in the Anglican Communion, I am fully aware of the reverent protocols guiding such sacred gatherings,” Ejiofor stated. “The clergy are not known to seize microphones mid-speech, but I am reliably informed that Wike was subtly and repeatedly signaled to wrap up or realign his message. Yet, he chose to disregard these calls for decorum and instead intensified his political tirade—right on the altar.”
Ejiofor questioned how a person of Wike’s public standing and ecclesiastical recognition could act with such blatant disregard for spiritual propriety.
He said the embarrassment caused by Wike’s conduct was not just to the Church but to the Nigerian nation as a whole.
Ejiofor called on President Tinubu to urgently rein in the minister, or better still, subject him to a psychological evaluation to assess his suitability for public office.
“It is high time President Tinubu calls Wike to order, or initiates a psychological assessment to evaluate his mental and moral readiness for leadership. The Church must remain sacred. No individual, regardless of position or influence, should be permitted to drag the altar into the mud of self-aggrandizement or unchecked arrogance,” he concluded.
