The Federal Government has rolled out the Expired Visa Amnesty Initiative to promote compliance with Nigeria’s updated visa policies and strengthen the country’s migration management system.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Akinsola Akinlabi, the initiative allows foreign nationals with expired immigration status to regularise their stay in Nigeria without facing penalties.

The amnesty, which took effect on May 1, will run until September 30. It is specifically targeted at individuals who have overstayed their visas or breached visa conditions.

The scope of the initiative covers foreigners holding expired Visa on Arrival (VoA), as well as single-entry or multiple-entry visas. It also includes those whose Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) expired more than 30 days ago.

Affected individuals are advised to take advantage of this window by regularising their status via the online portal: https://amnesty.immigration.gov.ng before the deadline to avoid sanctions.

To facilitate the process, the NIS has established a dedicated support team to assist applicants throughout the amnesty period. Inquiries and support requests can be directed to amnesty@immigration.gov.ng.

Mr Akinlabi reiterated the NIS’s commitment to promoting orderly migration, safeguarding national security, and ensuring transparent immigration practices.

Further details are available on the official NIS website: www.immigration.gov.ng.
