Stop the Dependency: African Lawmaker Demands Homegrown Solutions to Development Woes”
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared that its 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not contest the 2027 presidential election under its banner, stating unequivocally that the party has shut its doors on him and his allies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, made this known in a statement on Saturday, dismissing claims by Buba Galadima that Kwankwaso remains in the party and will use its platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu or any other candidate in 2027.
Galadima, in a recent interview, denied rumours of Kwankwaso’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and asserted that the former Kano governor would “strategically remain” in the NNPP until political activities formally begin.
However, Major debunked the claim, stressing that both Kwankwaso and Galadima had been expelled from the party for anti-party activities and no longer had the legitimacy to speak on behalf of the NNPP or run under its platform.
“The NNPP expelled Kwankwaso and Galadima long ago. They no longer represent our interests and cannot use our platform for any political pursuit,” he said.
Major explained that the party’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwankwasiyya Movement—led by Kwankwaso—was terminated shortly after the 2023 general elections due to internal conflicts and disruptive behavior.
“We cannot reabsorb Kwankwaso under any circumstances. His tenure caused deep internal crises, including unauthorized changes to our party logo and dragging the party into needless litigations in a bid to seize control,” he noted.
He recounted how a court intervention eventually compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore the NNPP’s original logo, which had been replaced following what he described as a “kangaroo convention” held in Abuja by the Kwankwasiyya faction.
Major further accused Kwankwaso of seeking another “free ride” like he received in 2023, warning that such a scenario would never be repeated.
“Kwankwaso is only comfortable in a political party where he can dominate the leadership. But in NNPP, that door is firmly shut,” he said. “His ambition to contest in 2027 under our platform is dead on arrival. He lacks the pedigree to rival President Tinubu or any serious contender.”
While affirming Kwankwaso’s constitutional right to pursue any political office, Major urged him to do so without dragging the NNPP into confrontations with the APC or the Presidency.
He revealed that the NNPP is already being courted by credible presidential hopefuls and will follow due process in selecting its 2027 flagbearer.
“Our presidential ticket will no longer be handed out on a platter. Anyone seeking to fly the NNPP flag in 2027 must emerge through democratic processes as outlined in our constitution,” he said.
Major also cautioned Nigerians against giving credence to political statements made by Kwankwaso or Galadima in the name of the NNPP.
“The party believes in constructive issue-based engagement—not personal attacks or baseless criticisms. Kwankwaso is advised to float his own political party for his ambitions. The NNPP has moved on and refuses to be dragged into fruitless controversies again,” he concluded.
