The newly inaugurated roads include: the Chima-Rai Jumu’at Mosque Road to Mabera Roundabout, constructed at a cost of N502 million; the 1.32km Unguwar Rogo Police Station Junction to Mabera Roundabout road, valued at N729 million; and the 800-metre stretch from Mabera Roundabout to Musa Lukuwa Jumu’at Mosque, connecting to the Eastern Bypass, at an estimated N756 million.

According to Arewa PUNCH, Governor Aliyu, while unveiling the projects, described them as part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance urban mobility and end the yearly flooding that has long plagued Mabera.

“These are not just roads; they are lifelines,” Aliyu declared.
“For years, Mabera was in the news every rainy season for unfortunate reasons. Today, we’re changing that narrative—not with promises, but with action.”

Each of the roads features dual-side drainage systems—a critical design element aimed at breaking the cycle of seasonal floods that previously cut off the area, disrupted businesses, and displaced residents.

The commissioning ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the country, including Edo State Governor, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, who attended as the special guest of honour.

Governor Aliyu expressed gratitude for Governor Okpebholo’s presence, describing it as a symbol of friendship and national unity.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to urban renewal, Aliyu assured residents that the government would continue to rehabilitate and construct township roads across Sokoto.

“Our vision is to build roads that are durable, flood-resistant, and worthy of a modern and expanding state,” he stated.

He also called on the Mabera community to take ownership of the new infrastructure:
“These roads are yours. Guard them, maintain them, and ensure they serve not just today, but generations to come.”

The governor took the opportunity to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his supportive leadership and dedication to grassroots development. He also paid tribute to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, whom he described as a steadfast mentor and key figure in his political career.

Our correspondent reports that the road commissioning represents a watershed moment for the people of Mabera—ushering in a new era of connectivity, flood mitigation, and renewed optimism for the future.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
