A 400-level Computer Science student of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, Joshua Lawson, has reportedly died by suicide after receiving a one-year suspension from the university for alleged examination malpractice.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sources confirmed to our correspondent that the 20-year-old took his life on Wednesday at his family’s residence in Lagos, shortly after learning of his suspension from the institution.

Lawson, who was expected to graduate with his classmates on July 27, was said to have been devastated by the disciplinary action taken against him.

Confirming the incident in a phone interview on Friday, the university’s Director of Communication and Marketing, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, said the student had appeared before the disciplinary committee and was found guilty of academic misconduct.

“He was a 400-level Computer Science student who was tried for examination malpractice and suspended for a year,” Suleiman stated. “He had not come to collect his suspension letter, but he must have heard about the decision. We don’t know what happened afterwards, but we later received the sad news that he had taken his own life.”

The tragedy has sparked a wave of grief and outrage among students on social media. Many have paid tribute to Lawson while criticising the university’s disciplinary policies as excessively punitive.

One student lamented, “How does someone get this close to graduation — just a month away — and have everything taken away over an exam misconduct case? Two years’ suspension? Cancelled semester? That’s not just punishment, that’s destruction. Now that student is gone. Where is the compassion?”

Another commenter added, “If this school doesn’t rethink some of its harsh policies, things will only get worse. This is heartbreaking.”

Responding to the backlash, Dr. Suleiman maintained that while the university deeply mourns Lawson’s death, disciplinary measures are guided by established regulations.

“The university is saddened by the loss. We extend our condolences to the family,” he said. “However, like any institution, we operate under a set of rules known to all staff and students. Once an infraction is proven, appropriate sanctions are applied. That said, we are truly pained by this unfortunate incident.”

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
