INEC Ward Delineation: CHURAC Warns Against Weaponizing Ethnic Divisions in Warri

In a statement released in Warri on Sunday, CHURAC’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alaowei Cleric Ebikonbowei, cautioned that the ongoing INEC ward delineation exercise—mandated by the Supreme Court—should not be used as an excuse to trigger ethnic unrest by disgruntled elements.
Ebikonbowei urged the federal government to move swiftly to de-escalate brewing tensions, lauding security agencies for the prompt arrest of a U.S. Army-linked gunrunner and his accomplices who were caught attempting to smuggle arms into the region.
“We insist on a thorough investigation. Every single person involved in the illegal arms trade must face justice—no exceptions,” Ebikonbowei stated. “If we are to avoid the looming ethnic crisis in Warri, no individual, no matter how influential, should be shielded from prosecution.”
He warned that if left unchecked, any violence in Warri would have dire consequences for the entire nation’s economy and stability.
Ebikonbowei called on security forces to monitor key figures suspected of inciting unrest, particularly those dissatisfied with the ward delineation outcome, and who may be recruiting unsuspecting youths to fuel an inter-ethnic clash.
“A crisis in Warri is not just a local issue—it’s a crisis that could severely impact Nigeria’s economic pulse. Everyone with goodwill must remain vigilant and expose anyone trying to create chaos in Warri Federal Constituency,” he added.
