Intrigue and Strategy: Lagos APC Rallies Support Across LGAs for Decisive Vote
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, demanding the immediate reopening of public primary schools across Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement signed by NANS National President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, the student body strongly condemned the closure of the schools for over two months, attributing the situation to unresolved disputes between the FCT Administration and Local Government Education Authorities.
NANS expressed deep concern over the continued denial of education to underprivileged children while the children of the elite continue schooling without disruption in expensive private institutions.
“It is unacceptable that for more than two months, innocent pupils have been locked out of classrooms in the heart of the country. This reflects a troubling level of government indifference to the plight of ordinary Nigerians,” the statement read.
The association noted that it had sent multiple official letters to the FCT Minister requesting urgent intervention and a dialogue to resolve the crisis. However, none of the correspondences have been acknowledged, nor has a meeting been granted.
Despite its commitment to peaceful dialogue, NANS warned that the FCT Minister’s silence had left it with no choice but to escalate its response.
“If the public primary schools are not reopened within the next seven working days, we will mobilise thousands of students and education rights advocates for a mass protest and a total shutdown of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA),” Oladoja declared.
NANS stressed that the right to basic education is fundamental and cannot be compromised for political or administrative reasons.
“We will not stand by while the future of Nigerian children is jeopardised. If action is not taken promptly, we will bring the administrative operations of Abuja to a halt,” the statement concluded.
