Governor Diri Declares War on Kidnappers, Orders Swift Rescue of Abducted Judge
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has instructed security operatives to ensure the safe and unharmed rescue of Justice Ebieyerin Omukoro of the Bayelsa State High Court, who was abducted by gunmen in Yenagoa on Saturday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during his ongoing local government thank-you tour in Sagbama Town, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to combat criminality and warned perpetrators, including their sponsors, that they will be caught and prosecuted.
Governor Diri revealed that the kidnappers were captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) and that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend them.
“Immediately I received the report about the abduction of one of our High Court judges, I summoned the state’s security commanders and gave a clear directive: that the judge must be rescued alive and in good condition,” he said.
“To those involved or sponsoring this criminal act, it’s time to give up. You cannot continue to terrorize your own people. Our government has heavily invested in security infrastructure, including CCTV, and footage from the incident is already aiding our investigation,” Diri warned.
The governor also used the occasion to thank the people of Sagbama Local Government for delivering overwhelming support to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 11, 2023 governorship election, which returned him and his deputy for a second term.
He called on residents of Sagbama and Ekeremor, which together form the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, to remain united and continue fostering peace and harmony in the region.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo hailed Sagbama as the political stronghold of the PDP in Bayelsa, noting that the area delivered the highest number of votes—likened to “Kano votes”—for Governor Diri in both the 2019 and 2023 elections.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
