Aftermath of Massacre: FG Rushes Reinforcements to Troubled Benue
The Federal Government has deployed more troops to Benue State following a recent deadly attack in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of dozens of residents.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This was disclosed on Monday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, in a statement condemning the killings and reaffirming the government’s determination to end the violence.
Akume said President Bola Tinubu responded promptly by ordering a comprehensive military operation to track down the perpetrators and restore peace in the affected communities, describing the killings as “mindless and disheartening.”
“I deeply appreciate President Tinubu for his swift directive initiating full security action to rid Benue of these murderers and bring them to justice. The federal government, through NEMA, has also extended relief efforts, and additional troops have now been deployed to manage the volatile situation,” Akume stated.
Lamenting the massacre of innocent men, women, and children, the SGF described the atrocity as a national tragedy.
“The ongoing bloodshed and senseless violence across Benue are deeply troubling and must be condemned. This latest horrific act is not just a blow to Benue; it strikes at the very heart of our nation,” he said.
He added that similar violence has plagued Plateau and Zamfara States, noting that these acts are economically motivated rather than religiously driven.
Akume urged Benue leaders and stakeholders to set aside political and ethnic differences and come together to find lasting peace.
“We must rise beyond our divisions and act with urgency to safeguard our people and secure the future,” he urged.
He also called on Nigerians across all religious and ethnic backgrounds to embrace peace and unity.
“Every life lost is an affront to the Creator,” Akume said, assuring that the federal government will not relent “until justice is served loudly, clearly, and without delay.”
