The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), in partnership with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on Monday kicked off a five-day digital empowerment programme aimed at equipping young people, including adolescents living with HIV, with essential tech skills.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In his opening remarks, ACCI Deputy President Adesoji Adesugba said the training would help participants support digital storytelling and visibility for health advocacy and social impact campaigns in alignment with NACA’s mission.

“Over the next five days, participants will gain hands-on skills in content creation, digital platform management, graphic and video design, and entrepreneurship,” he said.

Adesugba highlighted the collaboration between NACA and the ACCI’s Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre as a testament to their joint commitment to equipping young people with skills for the digital economy, enabling them to become community influencers and advocates.

He encouraged participants not just to acquire technical expertise but also to use their voices to amplify issues affecting their communities and promote a healthier, more informed society.

ACCI BEST Centre Director, Murtala Mahmoud, outlined the programme’s curriculum, which includes lessons in video storytelling, campaign development, and digital entrepreneurship. Participants will also work on group projects, with the most promising ideas eligible for further support.

“In today’s world, skills aren’t optional—they are essential tools for survival, self-expression, and inclusion, especially for vulnerable youth,” Mahmoud said. He noted the programme’s focus on equipping participants with practical knowledge in digital marketing, content development, and more.

Delivering the keynote address, NACA Director-General Dr. Temitope Ilori noted that youth aged 15–24 remain among the most at-risk groups for HIV in West Africa, facing challenges like stigma, unemployment, and limited access to digital education.

She emphasised the importance of equipping vulnerable young people with digital skills to enhance their economic resilience, mental health, and independence.

“This initiative aims to empower youth to access remote jobs, start their own businesses, and advocate effectively for their rights,” she said, adding that it aligns with Nigeria’s HIV prevention strategy, especially its focus on youth and communication.

Ilori urged participants to become digital change agents and role models within society, capable of creating meaningful content and championing health-related causes.

The curriculum includes training in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, AI-powered content creation, platform management, multimedia production, and design using tools like Canva. Post-training mentorship opportunities will also be available.

Ilori further explained that the initiative targets a particularly vulnerable group: “Many of the 40 young participants are living with HIV. This programme is designed to help them become financially and emotionally self-reliant—to sell their skills, support themselves, and meet their basic needs.”

She concluded with a charge to the participants: “Be a voice of hope, a force for change, and embrace content creation as a vital skill in today’s world. This training will help you speak up and stand out.”
