Speaking through Justice Adetokunbo Jibodu of the Ogun State High Court at the annual dinner organised by the Faculty of Law, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, on Saturday, Justice Dipeolu welcomed new law students and offered guidance on the expectations and challenges ahead.

She described the legal profession as both noble and highly rewarding, but emphasised that its training is rigorous and requires full commitment. According to her, students must reject distractions and embrace deep, consistent study if they hope to excel and distinguish themselves.

“The legal profession is inherently conservative and places a premium on discipline, diligence, and integrity,” she said. “Legal education is not just about passing exams — it’s the foundation for contributing meaningfully to a society governed by justice, fairness, and the rule of law.”

Justice Dipeolu encouraged the students to make the most of every academic and practical opportunity, including during court attachments. “When you begin your court programme, observe proceedings attentively and don’t hesitate to seek clarification after court sessions,” she advised.

Also speaking at the event, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyedunni Arulogun, urged the students to prepare mentally and emotionally for the rigours of the legal profession, stressing the importance of focus, dedication, and perseverance in the face of challenges.

In his keynote address, respected legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Sola Ojutalayo (SAN), encouraged students to pursue not only academic excellence but also ethical integrity. He described the study of law as a lifelong calling to serve society and effect positive change.

“Law is more than a degree — it’s a responsibility. Success in this profession comes through sacrifice, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, even when no one is watching,” Ojutalayo said.

He further noted that the legal landscape is rapidly evolving, with lawyers now finding relevance beyond the courtroom in areas such as entertainment law, technology, intellectual property, data privacy, sports law, arbitration, and more.

In his welcome remarks, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Kayode Akinsola, described the event as a celebration of the faculty’s core values, accomplishments, and future aspirations. He assured the students that Chrisland University is fully equipped to produce world-class legal professionals.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.
