This call was made during a high-level Programme Management Review Meeting held in San Diego, California, from June 9 to 13, 2025. According to a statement released on Sunday by NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the meeting brought together senior U.S. officials and representatives of Bell Textron — the manufacturer of the helicopters — to assess progress and streamline delivery timelines.

Abubakar reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to accelerating the procurement and integration of the advanced platforms.

“We are deeply thankful to the U.S. Government for its longstanding strategic partnership with Nigeria,” he said. “The AH-1Z Viper helicopters will greatly enhance our combat capacity, operational responsiveness, and overall mission preparedness. We are fully committed to ensuring these aircraft are delivered and deployed without delay.”

He described the AH-1Z Viper as a formidable asset known for its precision, durability, and state-of-the-art avionics — features that would significantly boost NAF’s capabilities across multiple conflict zones in Nigeria.

As part of his visit, the Air Chief toured Camp Pendleton, where he met with senior officers of the U.S. Marine Corps and inspected AH-1Z helicopters operated by Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39.

Abubakar concluded by thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast backing of the Nigerian Air Force, stating that the progress made so far reflects the President’s clear commitment to reinforcing Nigeria’s national security architecture.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.
