In a post shared via his X handle on Wednesday, Obi extended his condolences to the people of Benue State following yet another wave of deadly attacks. He stressed that the government must demonstrate genuine compassion and take decisive action to end the bloodshed.
Obi also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, for his recent decision to relocate with key officers to Benue, describing it as a much-needed shift in focus toward safeguarding a region that has suffered immense violence.
He wrote:
“Following my earlier remarks on the deteriorating security in Benue on May 28, 2025, I once again offer my heartfelt sympathies to the people of the state who continue to suffer from these brutal and senseless attacks.
“The pain and anguish across Benue are not only tragic but highlight a devastating failure of governance. Only days ago, I warned of the rising tide of violence in places like Benue, Kogi, and Plateau. Sadly, those fears have materialized again, with more innocent lives lost. This level of insecurity is not just unacceptable — it is intolerable.
“I appreciate the move by the Chief of Army Staff and his top officers to relocate to Benue. It reflects a necessary and commendable step towards prioritizing security in one of the most affected regions.
“I sincerely hope this decision brings lasting relief and peace to the resilient people of Benue, who deserve justice and the freedom to live, farm, and work without fear.
“The cries of innocent Nigerians demand justice. It is the primary duty of any responsible government to ensure the safety and survival of its people.
“My thoughts and prayers remain with every grieving family in Benue and across Nigeria. I stand with you, not only in solidarity but in the call for immediate, deliberate, and comprehensive action.”
