Two FCT Co-Wives Hospitalised After Taking Herbal Aphrodisiac to Regain Husband’s Attention
Two women in the Dakwa community of Abuja’s Bwari Area Council were hospitalised after ingesting a local herbal aphrodisiac in a bid to win back their husband’s affection following his recent marriage to a third wife.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The women, co-wives of Musa Muhammad, reportedly consumed a powdered version of kayan mata, a traditional mixture believed to boost sexual appeal and male desire. The concoction was intended to rekindle their husband’s attention, which had waned after he took a new bride from Gusau, Zamfara State.
Muhammad said he was alerted after spending the night at his third wife’s home and rushed back to find his two other wives in severe pain, rolling on the floor and complaining of stomach cramps. Initial treatment by a local nurse failed, prompting him to take them to a private clinic in Madalla, Niger State.
There, doctors diagnosed internal organ damage linked to the herbal substance, which had recently been provided in a powdered form by their regular supplier. The women underwent surgery and were discharged after nearly a week of medical care.
The incident has sparked renewed warnings about the use of unregulated herbal aphrodisiacs. Maryam Muhammad, a nurse at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, expressed concern over the growing popularity of these mixtures. She cautioned that some of the products contain harmful ingredients that can affect hormonal balance and even raise cancer risks.
“Only a few producers actually know what they’re putting in,” she warned, recommending natural dietary alternatives as safer options.
Authorities are now working to trace the herbalist responsible for supplying the concoction.
