Kanu’s Voice Allegedly Calls for Violence in Court-Admitted Audio Recordings
The Federal High Court in Abuja continued the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), with Justice James Omotosho presiding over proceedings.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The prosecution, led by senior counsel Adegboyega Awomolo, submitted multiple pieces of evidence aimed at strengthening its terrorism case against Kanu. Among these were written documents, digital media, and audio-visual materials purportedly linking Kanu to incitement and violent activities.
A key prosecution witness, identified only as BBB for security reasons, resumed testimony and referenced a letter authored by former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, addressed to the Department of State Services (DSS). The letter, dated June 17, 2021, accused Kanu of instigating attacks on security agencies and public institutions. The document was admitted into evidence as Exhibit PWF after no objection from the defense team, led by Kanu Agabi.
According to the witness, the letter alleged that Kanu encouraged followers through his broadcasts to attack police officers and seize their weapons. It also linked his messages to assaults on police stations, correctional centers, and other public infrastructure.
The court also accepted Kanu’s written statement to the DSS dated July 17, 2021, in which he declined to provide additional information, noting he had already made his position clear. This was marked as Exhibit PEG.
A flash drive allegedly containing multiple broadcasts by Kanu was admitted into evidence (Exhibits PWA and PW1), despite objections from the defense. The court played a series of videos and audio clips during the session.
In one clip dated December 12, Kanu was heard speaking from what he called “the blessed land of Biafra,” making statements perceived as inflammatory toward Fulani groups and Southeast governors. Other recordings allegedly featured Kanu ordering violent actions, including arson, armed attacks on security officers, and sabotage of federal infrastructure.
Statements such as “Burn down Lagos,” “Set Murtala Mohammed Airport on fire,” and “Kill policemen and collect their weapons” were among the remarks attributed to Kanu’s voice in the recordings. The DSS witness claimed these audios were played to Kanu during interrogation and that he acknowledged making them.
One recording, reportedly from the October 2020 End SARS protests, captured calls from supporters across Nigeria, including requests for weapons and logistical support. Another clip included a directive for a total lockdown in the Southeast, with threats to enforce compliance through arson.
The final video played in court showed Kanu addressing a crowd, claiming that arming for revolution was necessary to resist alleged Fulani dominance in Nigeria.
The trial continues as the court weighs these materials as part of the ongoing terrorism prosecution.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
