Eight Police DIGs Retire, Consider Legal Action Over Exit.
Eight senior officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) have reportedly retired and are considering legal action to challenge the circumstances of their exits.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The officers, all Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), stepped down on Friday amid ongoing restructuring within the police hierarchy following the appointment of a new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
Sources within the force, speaking to Sahara Reporters, said the officers are reviewing their retirements and may take the matter to court if they believe due process was not followed.
Those said to have retired include former Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba, Sadiq Idris Abubakar, Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi (DIG in charge of Operations), Adebola Hamzat, Basil Okwuoma Idegwu, Mohammed Gumel, Dankwara Adamu Mohammed, and Funsho Adegboye.
The officers are reportedly examining issues related to their retirement dates and whether the decisions complied with service regulations governing tenure and retirement in the Nigeria Police Force.
This development follows the appointment of Tunji Disu as Inspector-General of Police. Earlier reports indicated that the DIGs were expected to be compulsorily retired after the leadership change.
Meanwhile, seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) who recently appeared before the Police Service Commission (PSC) for promotion interviews have reportedly passed the screening and are set to be decorated as DIGs by the IGP on Monday.
The officers are Zacharia Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The promotion screening took place on Friday at the PSC headquarters in Abuja. DIG Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, who was promoted from AIG to DIG in February, will also be decorated alongside the newly promoted officers. His promotion was approved on February 20 after he successfully passed the PSC’s written exam and oral interview.
The exercise is part of routine career progression within the Nigerian Police Force and is conducted in collaboration with the Police Service Commission, which oversees the appointment, promotion, and discipline of senior police officers.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
