Kano NLC Throws Weight Behind Governor Yusuf’s Second-Term Bid
During the 2025 Workers’ Day celebrations at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Chapter, publicly endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term in office.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Addressing the gathering, NLC State Chairman, Kabiru Inuwa, commended Governor Yusuf for prioritising workers’ welfare, praising his landmark approval of a ₦71,000 minimum wage—the first of its kind by any Nigerian governor. Inuwa described the move as a significant relief for workers battling the escalating cost of living.
He further highlighted the administration’s consistent payment of salaries and pensions, noting that Governor Yusuf had cleared a ₦16 billion backlog in retirement benefits inherited from his predecessor. In addition, the minimum monthly pension was recently raised from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000, which the NLC sees as a strong indicator of respect for pensioners.
The NLC also recognised the government’s recruitment of teachers, approval of long-pending staff promotions, and commitment to regular training for civil servants. Inuwa described these efforts as tangible results of Governor Yusuf’s dedication to reviving Kano’s civil service.
“These accomplishments show not only a promise kept but a leadership that genuinely values the labour force,” said Inuwa, prompting a chant of “Allah ya maimaita,” meaning “May God repeat this administration.”
The endorsement signals significant backing from the organised labour sector and reflects growing confidence in Governor Yusuf’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
