Nigerians Warned About New Potential Ponzi Scheme: Tofro.Com
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has raised an alarm over an emerging fraudulent investment platform known as Tofro.Com (Tofro). The SEC confirmed that Tofro is not registered with the commission and is not authorized to solicit investments or operate in any capacity within Nigeria’s capital market. Investigations into the platform’s operations have revealed several characteristics typical of Ponzi schemes, including the promise of exceptionally high returns, an over-reliance on a referral system to maintain payouts, and the failure to process withdrawal requests from investors.
The SEC further advised the public to avoid engaging with Tofro, emphasizing that anyone who invests in such schemes does so at their own risk. The Commission reminded Nigerians to verify the registration status of any investment platform via their official portal at www.sec.gov.ng/cmos before committing any funds.
Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General of the SEC, reiterated the importance of only investing in ventures that are properly registered and regulated by the Commission to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
