Blackout Crisis: Businesses in Wuse 2 Struggle to Survive Amid Power Collapse
The once-thriving commercial enclave of Wuse 2 in Abuja is now facing severe economic distress due to prolonged power outages that have persisted for nearly a month. Home to high-end salons, boutique hotels, tech startups, and corporate offices, the area’s businesses are battling to stay afloat in near-constant darkness.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Unable to sustain operations amid soaring diesel costs and erratic electricity supply, many entrepreneurs have been forced to scale down, relocate, or shut their doors entirely. This power crisis in the heart of the capital reflects a broader national challenge and intensifies concerns about Nigeria’s energy security.
According to the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), local industries spent over ₦1.11 trillion on alternative energy sources in 2024, marking a 42.3% increase from the previous year. This surge—most notably a 75% jump from the first to the second half of 2024—is straining small and medium enterprises (SMEs) nationwide.
Entrepreneurs in Wuse 2 are voicing their frustration. A spa manager on Aminu Kano Crescent lamented the inability to fuel generators daily, leading to a sharp decline in patronage. Others, like Juliet, a fashion entrepreneur who launched her business in 2023, are abandoning their ventures entirely, citing unsustainable energy expenses and inconsistent service—even under the premium Band A tariff category.
The energy crisis has not spared even elite government quarters, with Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat recently revealing an N29 million electricity bill—up from N2.7 million the previous month—for his official residence.
The mounting energy costs, poor infrastructure, and insufficient electricity supply are exacting a toll not only financially but psychologically, as disillusionment sets in among residents and business owners who once saw Wuse 2 as a prime location for growth and influence.
On social media, residents are speaking out. One viral post highlighted the near-collapse of commerce in Wuse 2, where electricity is virtually absent, and running on generators has become economically untenable—even for Aso Villa.
While the Presidency recently allocated ₦10 billion for a solar project at the Presidential Villa to address energy debts and diversify power sources, experts argue that without a coordinated national energy reform plan, such interventions will remain symbolic.
Energy analysts emphasize that Wuse 2’s crisis is a symptom of deeper structural failures. From poor grid management to inadequate investments in infrastructure and metering, the current system is failing to meet the demands of a growing economy.
“This should be a wake-up call,” says Dr. Bulus Anag of Nasarawa State University. “If Nigeria truly aims for a $1 trillion economy, energy reform must be at the core of our national strategy.”
As the blackout lingers, the message to investors and business owners is grim: if power cannot be guaranteed in Abuja’s most prestigious commercial zone, what hope remains for other regions?

“Relief At Last!” – Dangote Refinery Slashes Petrol Price To ₦1,250 Per Litre.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has adjusted its gantry price for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), lowering it from ₦1,275 to ₦1,250 per litre, marking a two per cent reduction. This price shift is attributed to a decline in international crude oil prices, which serve as the refinery’s primary feedstock. An official from the refinery noted that such adjustments are expected in a deregulated market and emphasized that the company will continue to calibrate prices based on evolving market conditions. Despite this move, current retail prices at many filling stations across Nigeria remain above ₦1,350 per litre, with costs varying by location and marketer.Beyond pricing, the refinery has been credited as a key driver of Nigeria’s improving economic outlook. S&P Global Ratings recently upgraded the country’s long-term foreign- and local-currency sovereign credit ratings from “B-” to “B,” citing factors such as stronger economic growth, increased oil production, and improved external balances. S&P specifically highlighted the operational ramp-up of the Dangote refinery’s 650,000-barrel-per-day facility as a significant contributor to the nation’s enhanced balance-of-payments position and overall economic resilience.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Political Grudge Match: Ganduje Mocks Kwankwaso, Declares Him His Former “Political Boy”!.
A political war of words has erupted between former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The friction began when Kwankwaso, speaking at his Kano residence, insisted that prominent politicians—including Ganduje—owe their political rise to his mentorship and cannot deny their past loyalty to him. Ganduje, currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, responded through his chief of staff, Muhammad Garba, by asserting that Kwankwaso was actually his own protégé. Ganduje highlighted his role in Kwankwaso’s early career, including his support during Kwankwaso’s rise to the House of Representatives and his decision to step down as a gubernatorial candidate in 1998 to serve as Kwankwaso’s deputy. Ultimately, Ganduje advocated for moving away from “godfather” labels to focus on effective leadership and peace in Kano.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Option 2: Concise Summary
Following Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s claims that top Kano politicians were once his “political boys,” Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has fired back, asserting he was actually the mentor in their relationship. While Kwankwaso insisted that his former allies owe their success to his political structure, Ganduje countered by citing his own past support for Kwankwaso’s career, including his sacrifice during the 1998 Kano governorship race.
