Safiya, the victim’s close friend, shared the details leading up to the assault. She explained that she and the victim were together earlier in the day before the latter went to visit her fiancé. The next morning, Safiya received a distressing call informing her that her friend had been severely burned by boiling water.

The police have confirmed the incident, and their spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, revealed that two suspects are currently in custody for their involvement in the attack. The assault occurred months before the planned wedding, heightening the tension surrounding the event.

The victim’s fiancé, Yusuf, a 42-year-old man, expressed his shock, claiming that he had left to help charge his fiancée’s phone when the attack took place. One of the suspects, 23-year-old Fatima Abubakar, a neighbor, denied any involvement in the attack, stating that she was only asked to escort the victim to the police station after the incident occurred.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.
