Court Orders Aisha Achimugu To Appear Before EFCC Over Alleged N8.71 Billion Fraud
Justice I.E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered businesswoman Aisha Achimugu to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in relation to an investigation involving allegations of conspiracy, corruption, and money laundering.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Additionally, the court instructed Achimugu to be present in court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, following a ruling issued on Monday, April 28, in a case she filed against multiple law enforcement agencies, including the EFCC, Nigeria Police, DSS, ICPC, NSCDC, and the Immigration Service.
Responding to her suit, EFCC counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, presented a counter-affidavit submitted by an EFCC investigator, Chris Odofin, which detailed the reasons behind her summons.
According to the affidavit, Achimugu had previously honoured an EFCC invitation on February 12, 2024, where she gave a statement and secured administrative bail. However, she allegedly failed to meet her bail conditions by not returning, instead opting to file a fundamental rights enforcement suit to stall investigations.
Achimugu reportedly told investigators that the ₦8.71 billion inflow into her company’s accounts was an “investment fund” intended for the acquisition of an oil block. She claimed the funds were subsequently remitted to a federal government account through her company, Oceangate Engineering Oil and Gas Limited, referencing documents from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
However, the EFCC disclosed that Achimugu’s company secured two oil blocks — Shallow Water PPL 3007 and Deep Offshore PPL 302-DO — at a total cost of $25.3 million, with the payments allegedly made through cash transactions via bureau de change operators, raising serious questions about the legitimacy of the funds.
The commission further noted that neither oil block had commenced exploration or production, and alleged that the acquisition process was marred by corruption. Investigators also discovered that Achimugu manages 136 bank accounts across ten different banks, both personally and through her companies.
The EFCC maintained that Achimugu’s legal action was a deliberate attempt to obstruct investigations, especially after a previous case (FHC/ABJ/CS/451/2024) dismissed her claims of rights violations.
Ongoing investigations involve coordinated efforts with regulatory bodies such as the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and various financial institutions.
Achimugu is now expected to comply with the court’s directive and appear before the EFCC and Justice Ekwo’s court as scrutiny over the alleged multi-billion naira oil block transaction intensifies.
