UK Deports 43 Nigerians Amid Renewed Crackdown On Immigration Violations

The deportees included 15 individuals whose asylum applications were rejected, alongside 11 foreign nationals who had completed prison sentences. Additionally, seven others voluntarily opted to leave the country during the operation.
This deportation exercise forms part of the UK government’s broader “Plan for Change,” aimed at strengthening the immigration system by swiftly removing individuals without legal residency rights.
It is the second deportation flight to Nigeria and Ghana since the last general elections, bringing the total number of those repatriated under the current administration to 87.
Officials emphasized the growing cooperation between the United Kingdom and Nigeria on migration management strategies. Since the current government assumed office, more than 24,000 deportations have been recorded — an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Deportations of foreign national offenders have also risen by 16 percent, totaling 3,594 individuals.
Authorities stressed that all deportations are conducted “in a dignified and respectful manner.”
Speaking on the latest development, UK Minister for Border Security and Asylum, Angela Eagle, noted:
“This flight demonstrates the power of international partnerships in achieving the priorities of working people — swift returns and secure borders. Through the Plan for Change, we are accelerating removals and shutting down expensive asylum hotels.”
She also expressed gratitude to the governments of Ghana and Nigeria for their support, highlighting joint efforts to combat organized immigration crime and protect national security.
Similarly, Baroness Chapman of Darlington, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Minister responsible for Irregular Migration, emphasized:
“Global cooperation is crucial in addressing irregular migration. I commend our strong collaboration with Nigeria and Ghana, which is helping us secure our borders and advance the goals of the Plan for Change.”
This recent deportation follows the Organised Immigration Crime Summit, which convened representatives from over 40 countries — including Nigeria and Ghana — to intensify global efforts against human smuggling networks and enhance international migration management frameworks.
