FAAN Confirms Reopening of Enugu Airport After Emergency Repairs

According to Naija News, this update was confirmed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, during a press briefing on Saturday.
Orah explained that the reopening follows the successful completion of emergency repairs on the airport’s runway, which FAAN engineers have now certified as safe for both landings and takeoffs.
She expressed the agency’s gratitude to travelers, stakeholders, and airport users for their patience during the closure, emphasizing that all repair measures were carried out in the interest of public safety.
“The Federal Government has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport will resume flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025, after emergency repairs were completed ahead of schedule,” Orah said.
She recalled that FAAN had initially shut down the runway on April 18, 2025, after a significant rupture was discovered on a critical section of the asphalt surface. Repair works were expected to end by May 6, 2025, but engineers completed the rehabilitation earlier than anticipated, enabling an expedited reopening.
FAAN assured travelers that the airport is now fully cleared for operations and remains committed to maintaining high safety standards across all Nigerian airports.
