“Terrorists Now Rule Our Forests” — Gov Mutfwang Raises Alarm Over Plateau Takeover
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has issued a dire warning regarding the worsening insecurity across the state, stating that bandits and terrorist groups have now taken over most forest reserves, grazing fields, and game parks.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at a high-level stakeholders’ forum on Monday, the governor described the current situation as unprecedented and deeply troubling, noting that no senatorial zone in the state is free from violence.
According to Mutfwang, notorious locations such as the Wase Grazing Reserve and Pandam Games Reserve have become operational hubs for armed criminals, including kidnappers, terrorists, and bandits. He said these areas, once vital for agriculture and tourism, are now inaccessible, with some serving as “ransom markets” for kidnapped victims.
“In Wase, a once-thriving grazing area established in the days of Northern Nigeria has been lost for more than ten years. Kanam is under siege. The Pandam Games Reserve has become a safe haven for kidnappers,” Mutfwang lamented. He added that recent abductions in Shendam have been traced back to these zones.
He pointed out that with the exception of Langtang North and South, nearly every local government area is suffering recurring attacks, a crisis he said has dragged on for over two decades.
Governor Mutfwang questioned the prevailing narrative of “farmers-herders clashes,” challenging it as a false representation of the systemic occupation by armed groups. “How do we call it a clash when heavily armed men invade villages during Christmas, or when a grazing reserve is fully controlled by bandits?” he asked.
He urged Plateau citizens to set aside political differences and unite against the common threat, emphasizing that silence and division only worsen the problem. “This is not the time for political games. If Plateau is lost to insecurity, what future are we campaigning for?” he queried.
The governor called for a collective voice against what he termed “falsehood and genocide” and appealed for strategic unity to safeguard the heritage and survival of Plateau State for future generations.
