Fayose: How My Clash with Buhari Led to 7 Years in Court and Three Surgeries
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has opened up about the personal and legal toll of his long-standing political feud with former President Muhammadu Buhari.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fayose expressed deep regret over the confrontation, revealing he has endured a protracted court case for seven years and undergone three surgeries following alleged physical assault by security operatives during Buhari’s administration.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart recalled the incident, saying:
“When I declared that I would fight Buhari all the way, I paid a heavy price. I’ve been in court for the past seven years. They struck me on the neck, which led to three surgical procedures.”
Fayose emphasized the often harsh realities of political survival in Nigeria, stating he holds no grudges against political actors trying to protect their interests.
His legal woes date back to 2016 when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned him alongside former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, and others over allegations of laundering ₦1.219 billion—part of a larger ₦4.7 billion reportedly transferred from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
In the same interview, Fayose also touched on the growing rift within the PDP, particularly involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other party leaders. He urged reconciliation and called for unity among members.
