These individuals, all natives of Borno State, were among 390 former Boko Haram affiliates who voluntarily surrendered to the Nigerian Army and graduated from the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRR) Camp in Malam Sidi, Gombe State.
At the joint graduation ceremony for Batches Six and Seven, Brigadier-General Yusuf Ali, Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, praised the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies that contributed to the programme’s success. He urged communities to support the reintegration process as a step toward lasting peace.
According to the camp’s Commandant, Colonel A.A. Johnson, the six-month programme focused on ideological and behavioral transformation. Graduates received psychological counseling, religious reorientation, civic education, and vocational training, and swore an oath of allegiance to peace and national unity.
Representing Governor Babagana Zulum, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, emphasized the state’s commitment to peacebuilding and reintegration. “We are here to receive our people and show them that Borno is ready to reintegrate them with dignity. This is a journey of forgiveness, healing, and rebuilding,” she stated.
Gambo also lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Federal Government for their relentless efforts in restoring peace and offering second chances through the DRR initiative.
The graduation event was attended by representatives from several states, including Yobe, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kano, Katsina, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, and Kogi. Also present were officials from the Defence Headquarters, Nigerian Police Force, State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), North East Development Commission (NEDC), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Ministry of Justice, and other key stakeholders in the reintegration framework.
