Wike Slams PDP’s Readiness for 2027, Accuses Atiku of Broken Promises
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has expressed deep concerns over the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) preparedness for the 2027 general elections, asserting that the party lacks the seriousness needed to reclaim power.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Friday, April 18, 2025, the former Rivers State governor said the PDP is visibly disorganized and embroiled in internal power struggles that are undermining its chances.
Wike defended his decision to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 elections, emphasizing that under the then-incumbent Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had lost ground, and he believed Tinubu was the better option compared to Atiku Abubakar.
He accused Atiku, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, of being unreliable and failing to honor political agreements. Recalling the 2019 elections, Wike revealed that Atiku, alongside Bukola Saraki and Uche Secondus, had promised him key appointments—including the position of Attorney General—should the PDP win. However, according to him, those promises were never fulfilled.
“From the onset, I knew Atiku was not someone to trust. I was told I’d nominate the Attorney General, but even when the legal team was formed, my nominee wasn’t involved. That confirmed my doubts,” Wike said.
He concluded by stating that he has no intention of supporting Atiku—or anyone lacking credibility—for the 2027 presidency, insisting that the party’s current trajectory shows it’s far from ready to mount a serious challenge.
