Seun Onigbinde Defends Deleting Anti-Obi Tweets: “I Owe No One an Explanation”

He firmly stated that he is under no obligation to explain the removal of those old posts, which date back to 2015.
His remarks followed a wave of online backlash after users resurfaced the deleted tweets, especially given his more recent endorsement of Obi’s presidential ambition.
Onigbinde clarified that his decision to delete the posts was to protect himself from an onslaught of misinformation, personal attacks, and curses. He emphasized that platforms like (formerly Twitter) often lack the space for nuanced discussions and instead promote a divisive “with us or against us” mentality.
“I don’t owe anyone an explanation, nor am I interested in being drawn into distractions,” he stated, adding that his presence on social media is to share insights, learn, and unwind.
He acknowledged that if any of his tweets lacked context or no longer provided clarity, he had no problem removing them. According to him, this does not in any way diminish his lifelong dedication to transparency and public accountability—principles he believes are essential for national progress.
Lamenting the current state of online discourse, Onigbinde described as a “poisoned well” polluted by anonymity, virality, and organized troll attacks. He urged younger Nigerians not to be limited by harmful stereotypes or negativity they encounter online.
He expressed hope for a future where civic engagement is rooted in mutual respect and data-driven accountability. “I envision a culture where differing views are respected and governance is held to account through facts,” he added.
Onigbinde concluded by making it clear that those who engage in uninformed or toxic commentary about his work with BudgIT, Tracka, or Ogbomoso would be muted or blocked—not out of malice, but to enforce healthy boundaries online.
