Ndume Condemns Fresh Boko Haram Attack, Urges Stronger Community Defense Strategy

The assault led to the deaths of two soldiers and several civilians.
In a press release on Friday, Ndume expressed deep sorrow over the attack, especially as the community had only recently welcomed back internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had been resettled by the state government. He described the attack as a tragic blow to ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the region.
Ndume commended Brigadier General Nasir Abdullahi and his troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade for their bravery in repelling the assault and preventing the terrorists from gaining access to Gwoza town—a location previously held by Boko Haram.
He decried the ongoing insurgent threats in Borno’s South, North, and Central districts and urged the federal government to implement long-term solutions. One such proposal, according to Ndume, is the creation of an Armed Community Defence Force to support the efforts of the military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes. These local groups, he said, are committed but often lack the equipment needed to match the insurgents’ firepower.
Ndume renewed his call for the Nigerian military to embrace what he terms the TEAAM strategy—Technology, Equipment, Arms and Ammunition, and Motivation—as the framework for defeating Boko Haram and restoring peace in the Northeast.
“The time has come for a serious reassessment of our approach,” he stated. “We need modern tools and motivated forces if we are to end more than a decade of terrorist violence.”
Despite the continued threats, Ndume praised the military’s resilience and successful ambush tactics, which have helped keep insurgents from overrunning Gwoza town after the attack on Yamtake.
He concluded with a call for unity and unwavering determination in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing that improved security infrastructure and proactive strategies are essential for protecting citizens and ensuring lasting peace in Borno and beyond.
Niger State Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago, has officially confirmed that his current deputy, Yakubu Garba, will remain his running mate for the 2027 gubernatorial election. In separate developments, police in Niger State have arrested 38-year-old Hamisu Abdullahi for allegedly attempting to disrupt a public event. Abdullahi was taken into custody during the Governor’s visit to the Emir of Suleja after he reportedly shouted slogans regarding utility shortages. According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna on charges related to suspected thuggery and the obstruction of government activities.
