Matawalle Slams Tinubu Critics: “They’re Just Seeking Relevance”

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Goga, Matawalle argued that many of Tinubu’s critics are simply frustrated over their failure to secure appointments in the current administration.
The former Zamfara State Governor firmly rejected claims that President Tinubu is a political liability in the North, citing notable achievements in security and infrastructure under the current government. He emphasized that Tinubu has shown remarkable dedication to addressing regional challenges.
Matawalle accused some members of the political elite—many of whom previously held key leadership roles—of promoting misinformation to stay in the limelight and hide their underwhelming track records.
“These individuals had their time in power but left little impact. Now, they act as champions of the people, resorting to false narratives and emotional manipulation,” he stated.
Highlighting security improvements, Matawalle referenced Operation Fansan Yamma, which he credited with weakening terrorist networks and restoring calm in troubled regions. He praised the President’s proactive support of security agencies, noting that both Easter and Ramadan were particularly peaceful in many northern communities this year.
On infrastructure, Matawalle pointed to the revival of major road projects like the Zaria-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto expressway and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway—both of which had been neglected until President Tinubu assumed office.
“These projects were abandoned for years. The President brought them back to life, but his critics intentionally ignore this progress to push their narrative,” he said.
Calling for unity, Matawalle urged Northern Nigerians to reject divisive rhetoric and instead rally behind development-driven leadership.
“We must choose to be part of the solution, not the problem. The North has more to gain by supporting a functioning government,” he concluded.
Niger State Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago, has officially confirmed that his current deputy, Yakubu Garba, will remain his running mate for the 2027 gubernatorial election. In separate developments, police in Niger State have arrested 38-year-old Hamisu Abdullahi for allegedly attempting to disrupt a public event. Abdullahi was taken into custody during the Governor’s visit to the Emir of Suleja after he reportedly shouted slogans regarding utility shortages. According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna on charges related to suspected thuggery and the obstruction of government activities.
