Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has strongly denied reports suggesting that the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement released by Malami’s media aide, Muhammed Bello Doka, the CPC bloc—originally founded by former President Muhammadu Buhari—has not issued any official endorsement. Malami insisted that Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and his associates have no authority to speak on behalf of the bloc.

Malami also cast doubt on the credibility of Al-Makura’s group, noting that many of its members had previously criticized Buhari to gain personal political clout. He emphasized that any decision regarding endorsement or defection must come directly from the CPC bloc, not from individuals pursuing personal agendas.

Addressing speculation about his own political future, Malami denied rumours of plans to defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He maintained that, as a prominent political figure, any move he makes would be public and not done in secrecy.

He affirmed his continued membership in the APC but acknowledged that he is currently engaged in political consultations. Malami’s aide clarified that no formal decision on defection or new political alignment has been made.

Meanwhile, a coalition led by Senator Al-Makura, along with former Governor Bello Masari and ex-Minister Adamu Adamu, released a communique expressing full loyalty to President Tinubu and the APC. They reaffirmed their commitment to the party and rejected claims of disunity or plans to defect.

Malami, however, stressed that such declarations are personal to the individuals involved and should not be mistaken as the position of the CPC bloc as a whole.

Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during the APM South-West town hall meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He expressed confidence that the party would secure a sweeping victory in the 2027 polls, describing its agenda as a plan to reset the country.

Makinde made the prediction after Mohammed was introduced at the gathering and described as an incoming senator.

Speaking at the event, the APM presidential candidate said, “Well, APM is going to win this election overwhelmingly because this is the reset agenda being put before Nigerians, so I dare to say that my national leader is the incoming Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He urged Nigerians to listen to the party’s message and support its proposed agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.

Makinde also discussed the qualities he believes Nigerians should consider when choosing their next president, arguing that physical energy and the ability to tackle national challenges should take precedence over age.

According to him, the next president must possess the stamina to work long hours and respond effectively to the country’s pressing problems.

He stated, “While I will not make age an issue in this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late to deal with the challenges we face as a country.”

Makinde further challenged presidential candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, urging voters to consider their capacity to handle the demands of the presidency.

“So please, when they bring their presidential candidates, let the candidates be able to jump, and if they can do that, vote for them,” he added.
