Kebbi Govt Limits NURTW Control Over New ₦2bn Central Motor Park

During a media tour of the facility, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad, stated that the ₦2 billion project was handled by a local construction firm. He emphasized that the motor park was part of a strategic initiative to boost internal revenue and reduce unemployment across the state.

Ahmad noted that the state government intends to retain firm control over the operations at the park, ensuring efficient management and public benefit without undue interference from transport unions.

Addressing ongoing infrastructural development, the Commissioner also spoke on the State Secretariat project, initially launched in 2012 by former Governor Saidu Dakingari at a cost of ₦3.7 billion but later abandoned at about 40% completion.

Under the current administration led by Governor Nasiru Idris, the project has resumed with an added budget of ₦1.7 billion. Once completed, the new Secretariat will house all 25 ministries in the state, while other government agencies and parastatals will remain at the existing facility.

Ahmad stressed that this move will eliminate the need for renting office space, helping the government cut down on recurrent expenditure and improve administrative efficiency.

He said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen climate resilience, tackle environmental degradation, and promote sustainable land use in the state.

Speaking at the ACReSAL mid-term review meeting in Kaduna through the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abubakar Buba, the governor explained that the use of geospatial tools has made it possible to accurately identify affected areas for targeted intervention.

He added that the project is not only focused on land recovery but also on boosting agricultural output and improving livelihoods in affected communities.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.
