Atiku Urges Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency on His Own Presidency

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu, urging him to declare a state of emergency—not on any region—but on his own administration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku described Nigeria’s current state as one of “complete emergency,” citing escalating insecurity, deepening poverty, and what he called the president’s continued neglect of governance responsibilities during multiple crises.

He condemned Tinubu’s ongoing stay in France, which the presidency labeled a “working visit,” stating that such trips are tone-deaf at a time when the nation is in dire need of leadership.

“On April 2, 2025, President Tinubu left for France. If that announcement had come a day earlier, Nigerians might have laughed it off as an April Fool’s joke. Unfortunately, it’s a grim reality and a major slap in the face of a suffering population,” the statement read.

Atiku lambasted Tinubu for neglecting urgent national issues, pointing to rising insecurity in Plateau and Benue states, renewed Boko Haram activities, and worsening economic conditions nationwide.

“While Tinubu relaxes in a country known for efficient governance, Nigeria is disintegrating. Plateau is a massacre zone, Benue is under siege, terrorists are regaining ground, and Nigerians are sinking further into poverty and fear,” he said.

He also accused the administration of extravagant spending on needless foreign travel, questioning how a government that borrows heavily could justify spending billions on what he termed “vanity tours.”

Since taking office, Atiku claimed, Tinubu has spent a total of 59 days in France—time he believes should have been devoted to confronting Nigeria’s multiple emergencies.

“This isn’t mere negligence—it’s a catastrophic failure of duty,” Atiku stated.

He urged Tinubu to cut his trip short and return home immediately, adding that a truly patriotic leader wouldn’t have to be begged to show up in times of national crisis.

Criticizing Tinubu’s handling of internal political issues, Atiku said, “This is not like the manufactured emergency Tinubu imposed in Rivers State for partisan reasons—this is a national breakdown. So, when will he declare a state of emergency on his own failed presidency?”

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
