Tinubu Orders Crackdown as Plateau Massacre Claims 51 Lives
President Bola Tinubu has condemned the renewed wave of violence in Plateau State that claimed at least 51 lives in the early hours of Monday, tasking Governor Caleb Mutfwang with taking decisive political action to address the deep-rooted communal crises in the region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This tragic incident occurred in the Zikke and Kakpa communities of Bassa Local Government Area, just two weeks after similar deadly assaults elsewhere in the state. Residents confirmed the recovery of 51 bodies, with several others sustaining injuries.
The President, in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the killings as intolerable and urged an end to the cycle of retaliatory violence. He emphasized that the time has come to confront and resolve the ethnic and religious tensions that have plagued the state for decades.
“The tit-for-tat violence must stop. I’ve had extensive discussions with the governor and proposed pathways to lasting peace,” Tinubu stated, calling on Plateau’s leadership to go beyond reactive measures and address the historical grievances fueling these attacks.
He further instructed security forces to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. Tinubu also appealed to community leaders and faith-based organizations to collaborate in promoting peace and unity.
Meanwhile, youth leader Joseph Chudu reported that the attackers stormed the villages at midnight, opening fire and setting homes ablaze. He called for urgent medical support, particularly blood donations for the wounded being treated at Jos University Teaching Hospital.
Amnesty International Nigeria criticized the failure of security infrastructure, noting that the attackers not only killed civilians but also looted and torched homes. The group demanded a full investigation into the security lapses.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), in a statement signed by leaders Solomon Mwantiri and Bature Adazaram, labelled the attack an act of terrorism and called for Fulani militants to be officially designated as terrorists. The group also pushed for legislation enabling citizens to bear arms for self-defense.
In a separate development, troops from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Operation Safe Haven successfully rescued 16 kidnapped passengers near the Jos–Mangu road. Acting on intelligence from an abandoned vehicle, the soldiers engaged the kidnappers in a firefight, leading to the safe rescue of all hostages, including six children.
Troops administered first aid to the injured and are currently pursuing the fleeing suspects believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Plateau State in fostering reconciliation, dialogue, and justice to end the recurring bloodshed.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
