In a recent interview with Channels Television, Bashiru stressed that Nigeria is not operating under a socialist system, and electricity providers must recoup operational costs — including production, transmission, and distribution — while also maintaining profitability.

His remarks followed Hamzat’s revelation during a meeting with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) that his electricity bill had jumped from ₦2.7 million in March to ₦29 million in April.

Bashiru, who previously served as a Senator for Osun Central, noted that energy charges are influenced by various factors such as the size of the home, the number of electrical appliances, and overall energy consumption. He declined to speculate on the Deputy Governor’s specific usage, stating, “I don’t know the level of gadgets he has in his house or the size that could justify such a high bill.”

He also pointed out that high consumption by public officials should not be used as a benchmark for what average Nigerians experience. “It would be incorrect to generalize the Deputy Governor’s billing as the standard,” he said.

The APC scribe highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the electricity supply by modernizing outdated infrastructure and unbundling transmission operations to address systemic inefficiencies.

“Energy must be priced based on economic principles,” Bashiru concluded. “It’s essential for providers to recover production costs and earn a reasonable profit. We’re not in a system where power is handed out for free.”

PDP Crisis: Makinde’s Camp Signals Conditions For Reconciliation With Wike.

The factional National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong, has stated that any reconciliation with the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), must ensure the party remains in opposition in the next general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

One key challenge to the reconciliation, sources say, is that Wike’s faction supports a second term for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s camp, led by Kabiru Turaki, is committed to fielding a viable presidential candidate in 2027.

Wike’s faction has maintained that the PDP will not present a presidential candidate in the next election, sparking speculation that they may demand Turaki’s camp endorse Tinubu as a condition for reconciliation.

However, speaking on The Morning Show, Ememobong expressed optimism that common ground could be reached, but stressed that the PDP may not endorse Tinubu.

“Uba Sani Will Become Kaduna’s Most Popular Governor Ever – Fani-Kayode”.

He said the party would field candidates at all levels in the 2027 elections.

Addressing concerns that reconciliation might seem unrealistic, Ememobong said:

“Truth is that both hope and delusion are human emotions, and at the end of the day, it is the result that determines which was hope and which was delusion.
“So I can assure you that we may not endorse the President. As leaders, we listen to the people who delegated power to us. At this point, delegates have asked, ‘Can we at least get to the table?’
“When parties come together, you negotiate from your minimum requirements. If peace is to be achieved, one of the conditions will be that we field candidates at all levels.
“Regarding the presidency, we will present a viable candidate. We are approaching reconciliation with an open mind, but it must ensure the PDP remains an opposition party.”

Meanwhile, the former lawmaker has also criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its resistance to real-time electronic transmission of election results, describing the stance as evidence of fear and insecurity despite the party’s political dominance.

In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Melaye said it was contradictory for a party controlling 31 states to oppose reforms aimed at improving transparency in elections.

“APC is doing e-registration for members, but doesn’t want e-transmission of results. With 31 governors, dem still dey fear,” he wrote.

Melaye further accused the ruling party of undermining electoral reforms contained in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, warning that internal divisions within the party could eventually lead to its collapse.

“Implosion is imminent, and explosion is guaranteed. End of the road. Votes must count,” he declared.

His remarks come amid protests in Abuja and growing reactions across social media following the Senate’s decision to remove the clause mandating real-time electronic transmission of election results from the amended Electoral Act.

Civil society organisations, opposition figures, youth groups, and pro-democracy advocates have argued that scrapping the provision could weaken electoral transparency and increase the risk of post-election manipulation.
