Comedian Alibaba Unveils Obasanjo’s Alleged Election Masterplan: INEC Control, Governors’ Loyalty, and Party Infiltration

Veteran Nigerian comedian Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has shed light on strategic insights he claims to have received from former President Olusegun Obasanjo on how to secure electoral victory in Nigeria—especially at the presidential level.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during a YouTube interview on the ‘Outside the Box Podcast’, Alibaba recounted a revealing conversation with Obasanjo, detailing what he described as the former president’s tried-and-tested political formula for winning elections.

According to Alibaba, Obasanjo emphasized that winning the support of seven influential governors—those from Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Kano, and Kaduna states, along with the Central Bank Governor—is critical for electoral success. Obasanjo allegedly explained that while some states may lack financial power, their voter numbers play a decisive role.

Obasanjo, as recounted by Alibaba, further highlighted the importance of securing 44 key senatorial districts and issuing major contracts in the first year of office. He purportedly advised that awarding 10 contracts early—allocating 15% of the total value strategically—could yield significant political dividends.

The conversation also reportedly covered high-level appointments. Obasanjo allegedly advised ensuring control over critical offices such as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Inspector-General of Police, Comptroller-General of Customs, NNPC leadership, and the CBN Governor. Additionally, he advised suspending corruption investigations against wealthy former governors who still wield considerable influence.

Another aspect of the political playbook involved gaining the support of strategic groups such as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), market women, transport unions, and at least ten of Nigeria’s wealthiest individuals. International support, particularly from countries with vested business interests like the United States and China, was also considered vital.

Alibaba said Obasanjo stressed the importance of influencing party primaries, infiltrating opposition camps, and controlling media and public narratives. Tactics allegedly included offering jobs or favors to delegates’ families to secure loyalty during primaries and congresses.

The final piece of the puzzle, Alibaba revealed, included maintaining influence over INEC officials, state Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), traditional and religious leaders, and legal experts to consolidate power before and after elections.

These alleged revelations have stirred public discourse about the level of strategy and influence behind Nigeria’s electoral processes, raising questions about democratic integrity and accountability.
