During the assault, the terrorists fired Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) at the troops of Operation Hadin Kai, leading to an intense gun battle that lasted for hours. Despite being heavily outgunned, local residents of Izge, alongside vigilantes and hunters, rallied to support the military, helping to push back the attackers. In the aftermath, multiple Boko Haram militants were killed, though the military also suffered casualties, including the deaths of a Captain and a Corporal.
A resident, Mallam Isa Usman, described the ordeal, recounting how the attack occurred while most of the village was asleep. Despite the initial shock, the combined efforts of the military and locals forced the attackers to retreat, taking their fallen comrades with them.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, expressed deep concern over the ongoing insurgency and called for more advanced technology, such as drones, to enhance the military’s capabilities in fighting Boko Haram. He also praised the bravery of Izge’s residents for their crucial role in repelling the attack.
The Executive Chairman of Gwoza, Hon. Abba Kawu Idrissa Timta, confirmed the attack and acknowledged the significant losses sustained by the terrorists. He also emphasized the need for increased government support for the military to effectively address the persistent threat of Boko Haram and other criminal activities in the region.
