In a statement, AYDI emphasized the importance of collective security responsibility and urged the Local Government Chairman to stand firm in his efforts to maintain peace, warning that yielding to fear would amount to empowering violent elements.
The group condemned the recent killing of a herder and cattle in a village, encouraging Agatu indigenes, both home and abroad, to publicly denounce such incidents. They also called for the rehabilitation and engagement of local youths through peace-building initiatives to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
Acknowledging the restraint shown by the Fulani community amidst provocations, the group expressed confidence in the capacity of the council leadership and security forces to ensure justice is served.
Furthermore, AYDI discouraged retaliatory actions, urging residents to channel any grievances concerning the actions of herders through proper legal and institutional avenues.
Commending security bodies including Operation Whirl Stroke, the DSS, and the Police, AYDI praised their ongoing efforts in maintaining order and encouraged them to remain relentless in the pursuit of peace.
In closing, the youth group appealed to the council chairman not to waver or be disheartened, asserting that evil thrives only when the good remain silent or inactive.
