Bayelsa Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has strongly refuted allegations surrounding the unlawful detention of 15 former domestic staff members of Nigeria’s ex-First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, at the Okaka Custodial Centre.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Rumors had circulated suggesting that the individuals had been held in custody since 2019 over alleged theft of high-value items, including gold jewelry, electronics, and furniture valued at approximately ₦200 million. The accusations also included serious criminal charges such as conspiracy to commit murder, burglary, and felony-related offenses.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the Okaka Custodial Centre, Isari Gbosi Tombara, dismissed the claims as entirely false and malicious, describing them as attempts to discredit the correctional system. He emphasized that the detention of the individuals was in accordance with due legal process, with each detainee admitted into custody on the basis of a valid remand warrant issued by a competent court.

Tombara also dispelled speculations about a secret meeting between Patience Jonathan and senior NCoS officials, stating unequivocally that no such meeting ever occurred. He reassured the public that the rights of the detainees were being upheld and that they were being treated in a humane and lawful manner.

He noted that the case is ongoing in court, with the most recent hearing held on April 3, 2025, and the next session scheduled for April 17, 2025.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
