Okpebholo, in response to the violence, condemned the attack and took immediate action by visiting the site of the killings. He ordered the arrest of the perpetrators, suspended illegal vigilante groups, and took strong measures against the Commander of the State Security Corps, CP Friday Ibadin, who was later arrested by the DSS.
Prominent figures, including Barrister Jefferson Uwoghiren, a legal practitioner and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, praised the governor for his leadership, emphasizing that an apology in such circumstances reflects strength and a strategic defense. Gimba Kakanda, a Senior Special Assistant to the President, also commended Okpebholo’s well-articulated and decisive response.
John Mayaki, a former Chief Press Secretary to the previous governor, Godwin Obaseki, further highlighted Okpebholo’s efforts to bring normalcy to Uromi, noting his engagement with various stakeholders, including the bereaved families, Kano State government, and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin. Okpebholo’s actions included a visit to Kano State, where he spoke in Hausa and offered condolences to the people and government of Kano.
Scholars, including one from Cambridge and Oxford University, have lauded Okpebholo’s leadership, acknowledging his immediate action, visit to the scene, and engagement with community leaders both locally and in Kano. His efforts to arrest lawlessness and his commitment to justice and security have reinforced his reputation as a capable and responsible leader.
